Ahead of Saturday's game against Norwich City
at The Hawthorns, we caught up with Nathan from the City website Vital Norwich.
He gives his views on their season so far, Chris Hughton, the
Baggies
and more. You can also follow
Nathan and his website
on Twitter @VitalNorwich.
Its not been a great start
to the season for City, the defence in particular appears to be having a bad
time of it, how have performances been?
Well, we went through a spell of some decent performances
like Stoke City away,
Chelsea
at home and Arsenal away. We lost against Chelsea & Arsenal but the performance
level was good. Since then our away form has been awful. At home, I consider us
a match for anyone on our day but away, after the thumpings at Manchester City
and Liverpool we are just rubbish and it seems like a total loss of confidence
has occurred.
Is Chris Hughton still the man
for the job? If not who would you like to see in charge?
That's a tough question to answer. I so want him to succeed
because I want the team to do well. There is plenty of bad feeling amongst fans
though and a real "Hughton out" vibe. I think he is on the verge of going. After
Liverpool away and the
Suarez show, for all that player's brilliance he is again on the edge of losing
his job. If he was replaced, I really don't have a manager in mind. Mike Phelan
and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the best idea I've seen mooted so far.
You spent a fair bit of money in
the summer, in general have the signings been hit or miss?
Mostly, things have been good on the new signings front.
Leroy Fer has been terrific, as has Martin Olsson. Gary Hooper is now finding
his feet and getting truly match fit after being injured at the end of
pre-season, that lad is a goal scorer for sure. The jury is still out on Ricky
van Wolfswinkel after his record £8.5m fee. He scored on his debut and has shown
good movement but has lacked support - he is currently injured but on the way
back after missing the last 8 games or so.
Player of the season so far?
Leroy Fer - a monster of a midfield player. He has height,
strength, pace, can pick a pass, is good in the air and scores the odd goal. I
can see him being sold for big money in a year or two's time.
Any player been particularly
disappointing?
Robert Snodgrass has suffered from a lack of form so far. In
his first season he was always a threat and a real hard worker. This time out,
he has struggled with his final ball and decision making, he is currently
injured, which also doesn't help.
Prediction for Citys season,
are you confident of staying up?
I think we can stay up but with our away form it's got to the
point that I don't think we can win away at the moment - 3 wins out of 26 away
games under Hughton. Something has to give.
Prediction for
Albions season?
You've had a tough start and are only a point ahead of us but
your performances seem more consistent. I don't see anyone thumping you 7 nil
for example! I think you will start to put more points on the board and think a
top ten finish is realistic.
Any particular
Albion players
that impress you?
I always like Shane Long, although he always seems to score
against us. His two goals against Villa recently were great striker's goals.
Any memories that stand out from
previous Albion v Norwich games?
I think that the 2003/04 promotion race was a great one in
that we were both promoted but the fact that we pipped you to the first division
title and that Gary Megson (ex-City player & manager) was your manager made that
pretty memorable.
Premier League champions?
I think
Man City have the best squad but
Arsenal have really impressed me - I'll stick my neck out and say Arsenal.
Relegated?
Fulham,
Sunderland and Palace
Prediction
for Saturday?
Our away form is so bad that I just can't see us winning,
it's that bad. We are capable of losing heavily, 3 nil or so and if that happens
Hughton may go. However, if we could manage not to concede then a draw is
possible. I'd take that right now, I'll say 0-0.
