QUOTES
Albion boss Alan Irvine:
"It's a really important game
for us. We want to get a good result and progress to the next round. We will put
out a team of first team players. As head coach I have to manage the whole squad
and players who haven't been playing need to have a platform to impress. It's
very important that any players who are in the first team squad are ready to
play in the Premier League if called upon.
"I'm not surprised to hear that,
[on Bournemouth being made favourites by bookmakers]. We're going to their
ground and they're playing really well at the moment. It's something I'll use -
it reinforces the fact it's a difficult game for us.
"I saw them lose to
Derby which was a high quality Championship game. I also saw
them vs Reading when they were excellent and won 3-0. I have no doubt that this
will be a tough task for our lads. I had a think about their strengths and
weaknesses on the long drive home from their match last week and we've worked on
those."

Cherries' boss Eddie Howe:
“I’m not judging us against
Premier League teams because we are a Championship team but I think it’s a nice
experience for the players. I think when you look back to the Liverpool game
last year and what that would have done for our group in terms of experience and
developing a stronger mentality and improving our game, I thought it was huge.
It will be the same in this game. It is great to pit yourself against top
quality players and to see if you can overcome the challenges ahead. This is a
great game for us and we just can’t wait for the game to get started.
“They’ll play a strong team, I
think they’ll be keen to progress. I think they’ll see it as a good opportunity
to go a long way in a cup competition that can bring real rewards with the
closer you get to the final, so they’re in the same boat as us really. They’ll
be looking around thinking ‘Why not? Why can’t it be us to go on a run?’ so it
will be an incredibly difficult game for us. We are the underdogs but we will
give it a go.”

FIXTURE HISTORY
The two clubs first met back in
May 1940 in the Wartime League Cup, Albion winning the two-legged tie 5-2 on
aggregate.
The first 'competitive' meeting
of the sides came in the FA Cup in January 1955 when the Baggies, as holders,
travelled to Dean Court and returned to the Midlands with a 1-0 win courtesy of
a goal from Welsh international Stuart Williams.
Two friendly games followed in
1967 (1-0) and 1973 (0-1) before the first league meetings between the clubs
took place in 1987, Albion winning the first clash 3-0 at The Hawthorns with
goals from Tony Morley (2) and Carlton Palmer. The Cherries gained revenge in
the return game at Dean Court three months later with a 3-2 win.
The last league meeting took
place in January 1993 when the Baggies won 1-0 at Bournemouth thanks to a goal
from the on-loan David Speedie.
Since that last league clash the
the two clubs have met three times in cup action the first of which came in 1999
in an FA Cup 3rd round tie at Dean Court when a goal from current Bournemouth
boss Eddie Howe gave the hosts a 1-0 win.
Two League Cup ties have followed with
the Baggies winning both - 1-0 at The Hawthorns in 2007 and 4-1 at
Dean Court
in 2011.
The Baggies have won four out of the last five
meetings of the clubs.

Much-changed West Brom cruised
past League One side Bournemouth and into the third round of the Carling Cup.
Jerome Thomas fired the visitors into an early lead when he cut in from the left
and fired in a shot, before Simon Cox crossed for Marc-Antoine Fortune to slot
home and make it 2-0 at the break. Steve Lovell gave Bournemouth hope when he
met Scott Malone's left-wing cross. But a fine run by Billy Jones set up Cox to
curl in Albion's third, and Fortune slammed in a fourth late on.
Baggies manager Roy Hodgson
chose to make 11 changes from the side which lost to Chelsea in the Premier
League at the weekend, but was vindicated after his fringe players impressed on
the south coast. Bournemouth were left chasing shadows at times as they slipped
to a third defeat in eight days, while home keeper Darryl Flahavan kept the
score down, twice saving acrobatically from free kicks by stand-in skipper
Graham Dorrans.
The match was preceded by a
minute's applause in memory of former Cherries captain Roger Brown who died last
week, and Red Arrows pilot Flt Lt Jon Egging who lost his life at the nearby
Bournemouth Air Festival on Saturday.
