BIRTHS

1982 - Joleon Lescott

Birmingham-born defender Joleon Lescott began his playing career in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ academy, from where he graduated to their first team squad at the start of the 2000/01 season. He made his first team debut against Sheffield Wednesday at Molineux aged just 17 and would go on to become a vital, and very popular player for Wolves over the next six seasons. In June 2006, after making 235 appearances for Wolves, Joleon left Molineux to join Everton in an initial £2million deal, a figure that would rise to £5million dependent on clauses. The big defender continued his impressive form on Merseyside and in October 2007 he won his first full England cap, having already represented his country at under-21 and junior levels. After three seasons at Goodison Park the player joined big-spending Manchester City in a deal reported to have cost £22million. After a trophy-laden five year spell with City Joleon’s contract expired and on 20 June 2014 it was announced that he would be joining Albion on a two year contract.
