- Academy graduate Saido Berahino scores a hat-trick on his full debut for the
club in Albion's 3-0 win over Newport County in the Capital One Cup.
2005 -
Albion sign 17 year-old Mali-born Ibrahim Sissoko on a two-year
scholarship. The club have reportedly beaten off competition from
top-flight clubs in
England,
Spain and France to land the central midfielder who recently left French
club Troyes.
2005 -
The club are drawn at home to League One side Bradford City in the Carling Cup
second round.
2004 -
Former Arsenal
striker Sylvain Wiltord turns down the chance to move to The Hawthorns.
The French international has reportedly expressed a desire to play
Champions League Football.

BIRTHS
1893 - Fred Morris
Fred Morris signed professionally for Albion at the
age of 17 in May 1911. The Tipton-born striker scored on his debut against
Sunderland in April 1912 and went on to become one of the great names in
Albion's history. He left for Coventry City in June 1924 after scoring 118 goals
in 287 appearances for the Baggies. He died in Tipton in July 1962 at the age of
68.
1966 - Peter Butler
Tough-tackling midfielder Peter Butler signed for
Albion from Notts County in March 1996, initially on loan. The deal was made
permanent shortly after for a fee of £175,000. Butler spent almost two and a
half years at The Hawthorns making 66 appearances before he left to take over as
player/coach of his hometown club Halifax Town. Most recently, Butler was
coaching in Malaysia.
