The FA Premier League was formed on February 20, 1992, following the decision of all the clubs in the Football League First Division to break away from The Football League. At the time, and with Albion down in the old Third Division, many fans wondered if they would ever experience the ‘riches’ of the Premiership. The answer would be yes, but it would be ten years before The Hawthorns hosted its’ first Premier League match.

During and following Albion’s inaugural Premier League season in 2002/03, the club struggled to establish themselves in the top division, becoming the archetypal ‘yo-yo club’, seemingly too good for the second tier of English football but not quite good enough for the first. However, the arrival of the experienced Roy Hodgson in January 2011 would finally see the Baggies look at home in the Premier League.
